Tourism authorities announced that during 2009 and for the entire year, travel revenues to Panama reached a total 2.3 billion dollars, for a 5% increase over 2008.

According to the Panama Tourism Authority – ATP, this increase was received despite a decrease of 0.8% in visitor arrivals.

Statistics gathered by the office of the Comptroller General for Panama reveal that the country received   1,562,884 visitors in 2009; for a decrease of 12,167 visitors as compared to the previous year. December was the month with the largest number of visitor arrivals, reaching 180 thousand visitors while due in part to the swine flue epidemic, May and June were the months of lowest visitor arrivals with 87,682 and 93,587 respectively.

The ATP also informed that hotels in the capital city with over 100 rooms, experienced a 64% occupancy for the year.
