Domestic tourism and love for Honduras to shape the goals of new Secretary of Tourism

During a workshop held with outgoing administration officers and management, Nelly Jerez Caballero took charge of her new position as Secretary of Tourism.

In her statements to the media, Ms. Jerez emphasized that her experience for this designation can be summarized in her work ethic, quest to establish changes of attitude and her love for Honduras.

“The most important thing at this moment is to get our country moving again. We must evaluate each one of the projects and enhance the work ethic in the assurance that I arrive with the intent of fulfilling my mission to the utmost”

The Secretary added that her experience as a senator in the National Congress will serve to help her develop actions and initiatives delegated by the President.  The Secretary of Tourism intends to visit the entire country and meet with municipal authorities in order to prioritize domestic tourism.

“I have the advantage of knowing almost all of the 298 municipalities of the country and this will foster greater knowledge of each one of them, this will definitely be where we intend to start” she said.

Outgoing authorities specified that the situation of the Honduras Institute of Tourism – IHT is ‘financially sound’ as is the level of fulfillment of the National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism – ENTS that will govern the administration until 2021.

Nelly Karina Jerez Caballero is a doctor of Dental Surgery with a master degree in Medical Management and Epidemiology.  She was reelected to the National Congress for the department of Francisco Morazán and was given special leave by Congress to assume the position as Secretary of Tourism, based upon the request of Porfirio Lobo, the new President of Honduras.
