Country to benefit from TACA – Avianca

Costa Rica will reap benefits from the recent creation of the new TACA-Avianca airline.

Fernando Naranjo, President of TACA in Costa Rica, assured that starting in mid 2010, “the operation will be strengthened here” with new routes and flights.

“This hub has a series of advantages over others. Tourism in Costa Rica is still on a path of growth and ‘Ticos’ have a higher per capita income versus the rest of the region and finally, there is greater tourism investment in the country. These are all interesting aspects for the company”, he stated.

The Colombian airline Avianca and TACA concluded all the corresponding procedures to establish a company based in the Bahamas which will result in a new company to be called TACA-Avianca.

Sixty seven percent of the shares will be held by Synergy Aerospace Corp., owners of Avianca and 33% of the shares are held by Kingsland Holding Limited; the major shareholder of TACA.

The company will also include LACSA, TACA Perú, Aviateca, Sansa, La Costeña, Aeroperlas, Isleña, Sam y Tampa as well as the current Synergy purchase options of Aerogal (Ecuador) and Oceanair (Brazil).
